Epic - Kids' Books & Reading App Reviews

I love this app for the books and the reading!! Two things need to change: 1) option to disable video library! This is a reading app and having videos is too tempting for the kids to just watch videos when they should be enjoying READING! 2) The "achievements" that randomly pop up on the screen get really obnoxious! You cant be in the app for more than 20 seconds without some big animation popping up congratulating you for some achievement you earned. Again, this feature just distracts from the reading. If you have to have achievements then let them pop up when you finish a book - not when I first open the app please.

Great collection, but I find the effects quite jarring and hyperactivity-inducing, especially the shaking of the screen after one finishes a book. Is there any way to turn these off, so my daughter and I can just read these books in peace?

i really wish this would open on my sons older iPad.

Its super annoying to have 30 million achievements pop up constantly. Im trying to read a book to my kid. I want 1/10th the amount of achievements and never in the middle of a book! Love the idea and my 1.5 and 3.5 year old love the books. Glad they have some for younger kids. Some of the read to me ones dont line up properly with whats on the page but its still nice. Awesome idea. Please chill with achievements. :)

My free month is up, but when it was up, it said to enter parents birthdate. I did and it did not accept . I tried both my parents and my siblings and My birthdate but it STILL didnt Accept! Please tell me what I am doing wrong. I know they are the correct birthdates.

Unless you are hovering over your child/student, chances are they will select a video over a book. I wish there was alway to disable the videos or only access them with a parent/educators approval. Frequent Achievements do get distracting.

Wish it acknowledge homeschool educators as educators.

We love Epic Books for kids but my son is always going for the videos now whereas before he just read books. PLEASE PLEASE make this a feature you can disable in the settings. Its totally taken him off track reading. Im cancelling our subscription until parents have the option to allow or disable videos. Please listen to your customers!

My 5 year old daughter is loving this app!! Shes so excited about reading and all the books she can choose from. She takes rating them very seriously.

The app looks good and will only get better as it gets more titles. The thing that is REALLY missing though is the ability to use the iPads built in accessibility feature of speak selection. A lot of kids read on the iPad because they need the iPad to decode for them. Please add this as a future update, it is critical!

I was wrong, it does support portrait mode but you have to first tap to expend the book then turn the iPad. So five stars it is!

I have been so impressed with this app, and all work thats gone into it. It has had a hand in making my youngest a voracious reader. She loves the selection, and works hard to earn badges.

I love this app. It has an abundant library of high quality books available for children to read. It allows the user to browse, search and read offline. It has a small selection of "read to me" books for emergent readers and integrates a badge reward system for reader accomplishments. Im a teacher and would recommend this to parents as an easy way to provide access to decent reading materials for their children.

It is convenient to take this app on the go. We read while waiting for school to start, while we wait for siblings to get out of school and while waiting for appointments. It saves us the hassle of dragging multiple books around, which we used to do. The selection is wonderful and overall it has increased our reading time while lowering impatience in the kiddies. Now they like to be early so we can read. The badges are also a hit.

This app is wonderful for our five year old but we are holding off on another year subscription as the price has gone up and is $89.99 which I find to be quite steep. I think they are pricing themselves out of the market.

When I saw this I was like I love this AND then when I figured out that you had to pay I was like seriously ! Why should you pay I deleted it right away !

They say its easy to cancel at anytime. Its not easy. Theres no cancel acct button under your profile. Parents have a profile but I never set it up and now it needs a password very time I try to go to the parents profile. Very frustrating!

Hey there, I was just wondering, how do you exit the window that offers the "Membership"? I cant use this app unless there is a button to exit it. Thanks.
